Lindsey, Associate Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Ohio State University, whose research and teaching interests include African American women’s history, Black popular and expressive culture, Black feminism, hip hop studies, critical race and gender theory, and sexual politics. She discusses how “dynamic, fierce, fearless” women of the Progressive Era (1890s-1920s) pushed for change, combating the sexism and racism of their day, and how Black women in particular participated in the suffrage and the anti-lynching movements.
