The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People or NAACP is a civil rights organization in the United States, formed in 1909 as a bi-racial endeavor, initially to protest lynchings, and to advance justice for African Americans. About 60 people were named as founders, among them 7 African Americans, including W. E. B. Du Bois, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, and Mary Church Terrell.
