This International Peace Month we recognize Jeanne This International Peace Month we recognize Jeannette Rankin, and activist and two-time Congressperson who promoted an anti-war stance and women's suffrage.

Rankin helped to found multiple peace organizations, established the Women's Peace Party, and lobbied with the National Council for the Prevention of War, among many other things.

August 6th, 2022 marks the 96th anniversary of the August 6th, 2022 marks the 96th anniversary of the day Gertrude Ederle became the first woman to swim the treacherous English Channel. 

Ederle not only faced sexism and discrimination in her field but a host of physical and mental challenges in the water itself. She battled harsh winds, gigantic waves, and venomous jellyfish in the channel, completing the swim in 14 hours and 39 minutes.

This American Artist Appreciation Month, we celebr This American Artist Appreciation Month, we celebrate Meta Warrick Fuller, a Black woman sculptor in the early 20th Century whose works were displayed in collections in Paris and the U.S.. 

Early on in her career, Warrick Fuller was known as the "sculptor of horrors" for her dark, spiritual artwork. Some of her accomplishments include presenting sculptures for several world's fairs and becoming the first African American woman to receive a federal art commission.
