National Association of Bilingual Education Annual Conference

UNLADYLIKE2020 was proud to present its new Spanish language resources at the 52nd Annual International Conference of the National Association of Bilingual Education (NABE) in Portland, Oregon. Attended by over 2,600 educators, the 2023 conference which was themed “United in our Diversity: The Power of Languages and Cultures.” Since 1975, NABE has been the only national organization devoted to representing bilingual and multilingual learners and education professionals, and advocating for educational equity and excellence for bilingual and multilingual students and educators. In an hour-long presentation, UNLADYLIKE2020’s executive producers Sandra Rattley and Charlotte Mangin were joined by Maria Cristina Urruela, Lecturer at the Stanford University Language Center, and Kristina Kirtley, Senior Producer for Content & Youth Engagement in the Kids Media & Education team at The WNET Group. They introduced the series, screened short films now subtitled in Spanish about Mexican American trailblazers journalist and civil rights leader Jovita Idar and botanist Ynés Mexía, and showcased the bilingual educational resources.

Spanish language translation of UNLADYLIKE2020 content was completed by Spanish language students at Stanford University during the 2021 school year, with support from the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
