Lower Eastside Girls Club

Series Creator Charlotte Mangin will be presenting two UNLADYLIKE2020 shorts – Charlotta Spears Bass, a newspaper editor and the first Black woman to run for Vice President of the United States, 68 years before Kamala Harris, and labor activist Rose Schneiderman who grew up in the tenements of the Lower East Side – to a large group of high school girls as part of the Lower Eastside Girls Club’s virtual speaker series.

The Lower Eastside Girls Club has been “Opening Doors, Empowering Women, and Building Community Girl by Girl” since 1996. Today, the organization operates a full-service arts, science and civic engagement Center for Community on Avenue D, adjacent to the low-income NYCHA housing projects. Their mission is training the next generation of ethical, entrepreneurial, and environmental leaders. Girls Club members overcome adversity, perceive opportunity, develop self-confidence, make ethical decisions and healthy life choices, thrive academically, embrace leadership, and have the ability to enter college or the workforce as fully prepared and connected adults.

The event will be open to the public. RSVP link coming soon.
