Rankin was a passionate activist and politician who fought for women's suffrage, workers' rights, and African American Civil Rights. She introduced and championed for many pieces of legislation for women and children including the 19th Amendment and the Sheppard-Tower Maternity Act. At age 87, after retiring from politics, she led 5,000 women in what is known as the "Jeannette Rankin Brigade" at a Vietnam War demonstration, advocating for peace. The event was held in Salt Lake City, specifically meant to celebrate the installation of Cannon's new statue as a part of PBS Utah's "She Votes Utah" campaign to encourage voting and civic participation among young women. The screening was followed by a panel including Becky Edwards, former Utah legislator and U.S. Senate candidate; Nancy Green, PBS Utah Senior Producer; and Nevaeh Parker, Roy High School senior and political activist.

As part of the U.S. Mint’s American Women Quarters Program, Anna May Wong, Bessie Coleman and Jovita Idar will soon be featured on U.S. quarters. While release into the general public for Wong began today, Coleman and Idar’s coins will be issued in 2023.

However, being on the U.S. quarter isn't the first barrier Wong has broken; during the age of the Chinese Exclusion Act, Wong was the first Chinese woman to star in a Hollywood film.
